Overview

Nature-based solutions (NbS) harness the power of healthy ecosystems to address societal challenges. Examples include mangrove restoration for coastal protection, wetland creation for flood control, urban forests for cooling cities, and peatland conservation for carbon storage. NbS often provide multiple co-benefits: biodiversity, water quality, recreation, and livelihoods. They can be more cost-effective than engineered alternatives and are increasingly integrated into climate adaptation strategies and corporate sustainability programs worldwide.
